Posted on 24/01/2026

Doireann Garrihy has shared a glimpse at the latest progress made in her renovations after purchasing her first home last year, and has potentially hinted at a move in date.

The broadcaster and presenter paid €490,000 for the three-bedroom semi-detached property, which is just around the corner from her family home in Castleknock.

Something of a fixer-upper, Doireann has been putting her own stamp on her new home, and has been bringing followers along during the process.

21 Walk-In Shower Ideas For Any Size Bathroom

Posted on 21/01/2026

A tub can be a gorgeous focal point in the bathroom, but a walk-in shower is a true showstopper. For bathrooms large and small, a tub-free shower is a great alternative to make a big impression. According to designers, this stand-alone option delivers powerful style and function.

“A walk-in shower can provide functional elements over a tub shower, such as dual shower heads for busy couples getting ready in the morning, enhanced safety, additional space for a larger niche or two to store shampoos and soaps, etc, and a bench seat,” says designer Susan Sutter. “Walk-in showers also provide more beauty and style than a tub shower with opportunities to use fun tile pairings on the shower floor, niche accent, and wall tile.”

01 Essential Homes Research Project - final 1 @chiarabecattini

The Essential Homes Research Project has been unveiled at the 18th International Architecture Exhibition in Venice, Italy.

The housing concept was designed by the Norman Foster Foundation to meet the essential human needs of displaced communities while utilizing sustainable building techniques and materials.

The number of displaced individuals and families continues to grow and settlements that are meant to be temporary often become places where families spend decades.

Developed with building materials company, Holcim, the homes have been designed to offer a durable and safer alternative to tent shelters – in a bid to enable displaced individuals to live with dignity.

Supported by Holcim, the five-day educational program brought together academics and students from around the world to explore the challenges and potential solutions for providing emergency shelters to vulnerable communities.

Following this initiative, Holcim invited Norman Foster and his team to continue exploring these ideas, and together they developed the Essential Homes Research Project.

COOPERSBURG, PA — A vast majority of US homeowners say that quality lighting is important to the design of their home, with most reporting that lighting “is one of their most important design choices,” according to a Harris Poll survey conducted on behalf of Lutron Electronics, a major supplier of lighting, control and automated shading solutions.

According to Lutron, the first-of-its-kind poll “signals the growing demand for modern, high-quality lighting solutions” that supports the role of lighting in everything from wellness and sleep routines, to creating ambiance, connecting to nature, incorporating sustainable design elements, and informing homebuying priorities.

“Light is a fundamental element in the design of a space,” said Cecilia Ramos, senior director for the Coopersburg, PA-based Lutron. “Light brings atmosphere and can enhance not only the aesthetic of a home but how we look, feel and live within it.”

According to Lutron, about three quarters of surveyed US homeowners (74%) said they would not purchase a new home without “good natural light” even if the home checked the other boxes on their search.

“One of the most organic ways to support connection to nature within the home is through natural light – both sunlight as well as

Jigiwa LGAs to spend N540million on renovation of guest houses | The Guardian Nigeria News

Posted on 15/01/2026

Chairpersons of local government in Jigawa State intend to spend N540 million renovating their guest houses in the state capital.

This was disclosed in the state 2024 budget. The 27 local governments collectively proposed N3.4 billion for security vehicles and guest house renovations.

Each chairperson allocated a N106 million for two Toyota Hilux vehicles for “security operations,” totaling N2.9 billion for the entire state.

In addition, each budgeted N20 million for renovations to guest houses in Dutse, the capital, bringing the total to N540 million.

These expenditures are part of the N109 billion budget for local governments submitted to the state House of Assembly.

The House Appropriations Committee Chairman, Ibrahim Adamu, revealed the details while presenting it to Speaker Haruna Aliyu.

Last Thursday, the assembly passed the N109 billion budget for local councils alongside the N298 billion budget for the state government.

Aliyu explained that the N298.14 billion state budget presented to the assembly by Governor Umar Namadi differs from the N298.14 billion local government budget, noting that the local government budget only needs the assent of the assembly to become a law.

“The committee found that the provision of N106,393,395.00 provided by each local government council amounting to N2,872,621,665.00
